FWIW... mine have a spring clip that must be dealt with.  Non-original 
perhaps, but yours may have these too.  If they do you should be able to 
see them with close scrutiny -- they are a springy blade that catches 
the lower end of the knurled post.  I used to have to (carefully!) use a 
small flat-bladed screwdriver to lift the spring back.  Over the years 
(frequent removal for aeroscreen) they have become 'tired' and now just 
wiggling gets them free.
