Same friend is having trouble with his generator on a later TR4. The red
dash light never comes on, not when driving or even when he first turns
the ignition key to "on". This problem apparently started at the same
time that his generator stopped recharging his battery. The ammeter
shows slight discharge at idle and at driving speeds, higher discharge
with the lights on, but never shows a "+" value. And his battery does
eventually run down as he drives. For my own generator problems in the
past 4 years -- once it fell off, once a loose connection, once a broken
wire -- the red light was a helpful "stop and look around for your
generator" indicator.
Anyway, what would have failed that would both keep the battery from
charging *and* would "break" the red generator light?
PS he hasn't checked the bulb in the dash light yet.
