Engine Question:

I have been working getting my engine out of its 15 year hibernation, and it
has this annoying miss which is quite noticeable even at 1000 rpm idle.

I put the timing light on each sparkplug wire and it has a perfectly regular
blinking for whatever that is worth.

I took off the air cleaners and looked at the pistons and checked the
synchronization. They are just about perfectly synced already. The pistons
lift and drop freely. After removing the dampers I can rev up the engine and
the pistons rise equally.

BUT..... when I put the synchronizer on the carbs off idle, the front one
seems to have no more flow off idle than when on idle. The rear carb has the
flow increase dramatically off idle. I was holding the engine speed the same
when testing both carbs.

So, why would the synchronizer show low flow on the front carb, but the
pistons move equally? I would have thought they were measuring the same
thing!

I tightened up all the nuts for the front carb and manifold mounts. That did
nothing.

I used propane to look for a vacuum leak, but found nothing.

I guess the next step is to check the compression to verify the health of the
innards of the engine. Then check the rocker clearances.

Then what?
