I'll take a look at your pics.
But it sounds like you are trying to install the shallower TR4 'wood dash
plinth' version which is required for the optional wood dash. This plinth is
shorter at top to accomodate the thick plywood and veneer. Steel dash TR4s came
with a deeper plinth.

The problem seems to be the switch plinth 'supports' (horns that extend from
the dash) that stick out too far for the 4A and the shape of the 4 plinth is
not right for the support. I'm going to take a picture of the three units side
by side by side and will send them to anyone who thinks they can identify the
situation (will also take a pic of the center support)
