I had asked the list many months ago about a source for convertible top
material which has the inside surface being TAN canvas. Many of the current
top materials have black vinyl on both the outside and inside surfaces. No
one was able to give me a source for the tan type. I managed to find one
source of a black vinyl/tan canvas material, but the vinyl texture is
completely wrong.
After discussing the issue with some knowledgeable friends, there was some
question of whether some TR4/4A cars were equipped with tops which had a black
inside surface. My 66 TR4A definitely has/had the original top and it is tan
canvas on the inside, and the color matches the tan painted top bows. My
friend has a TR4 which he is pretty sure came with the original top and it was
black on the inside.
So, here is the poll, of those of you who have or had an original top what
was the inside surface? Tan or Black? Cloth or Vinyl? What year was the
production? How sure are you it is original? AND what color is the webbing?
I will keep the list informed of the results of the poll, and I think it will
could have some bearing on judging guidelines!
