power the pump is a fused version of a white wire in the first place?
Why not just used the green wire to power the pump -AND- run it to the
inertia switch/relay? <

The advantage of running the pump power through its own fuse is that if the
pump wires shorts to ground and blows the fuse it will not take out your
turn signals, wipers and brake lights with it. You need most or all of
those items to get the car pulled over when you loose power. Depending on
where you mount the pump (and the ideal location is in the rear near the
bottom of the fuel tank) the wire may be vulnerable to damage.

Another advantage is that it will not contribute to an already heavily
loaded circuit that powers the gauges, wipers, brake lights, turn signals
heater blower and windscreen washer pump.
