I guess it depends upon the condition of your wheels!
Painted wheels, that old, most usually have rusted nuts to spokes and must
be stripped and soaked out..........until they will come apart enough to be
trued and adjusted..........a lot of times it just cheaper for them to 'bolt
cutter' out all the old spokes and replace with new. In my experience, I have
never seen an old wheel that was true, unrusted......... painted or chormed!
Probably less expensive to buy new 48's (if you can find them) or 60's. If
you can't find new 48's and just have to have that look........talk to:

A great guy to deal with......(he used to work for British Wire
Wheels.....but when they got out of the business of reconditioning wire wheels,
he went out
on his own) I UPS him my rims, for whatever, he does what ever I ask, even
to mounting new tires and balancing them......(almost impossible to find
someone able to balance wire wheels and tires locally....technology from the
40-50's, eh?) and then he UPS's them back to me. With WA state
tax..........shipping=tax...... Anyhow.........check with him on what your
plans
are.............NFI..........have had him work for me twice........still very
pleased............he can even put colored stripes on your tires, if you wish!
