Hi Jack,

Try placing a fan in front of the inlet, also make sure the inlet filter 
isn't clogged or restricted.

Remember, these things are just internal combustion engines without the 
combustion....

The higher the inlet pressure the easier it will be to get your desired 
output.

P.S. Perhaps a better discussion for the Shop-Talk  list, but I'd love to 
hear from anyone who's homebrewed a tig or plasma cutter.
