Actually, small plugs usually were fitted originally, to be replaced by the
grease fittings. According to Service Bulletin T-66-19, "...the...fitting may
be left in position for convenience, if necessary."

That's reassuring, as removing the remains of a busted zerk fitting from the
LF vertical link on the Herald is a task I decided to put off until over the
winter...and that time is now here.
