The list has been quite on the subject of the So. Ca. fires. I feel
compeled to say a little something. First I would like to extend
heartfelt sympathy for the firefighter that lost his life yesterday
defending Julian. Then thanks to all those firefighters that have
dedicated so much to fighting these fires.
I first saw Julian in 1965 while running the Pan Am ralley from Downey
to Ensenada in my 1960 TR3A. It was a strikingly beautiful little
town. My head racheted left to right as I blew through it headed south
to the next check point.
Over the years I returned there numerous times for camping and day
trips. I have many fond memories of the area with my son and a
girlfriend. I related yesterday a story to my son of him fishing in
lake Cuayamaka (sp). That town is now gone.
I hope all of you on the list are safe and have not suffered in this
devastation.
