>My speedometer cable broke on the way to bowling green last month.
<snip>
So today I pulled the trans cover off and took off the lower cable, it was
all bound up and woundn't move. I put a new cable on and still nothing ;I
then hooked another cable to it and went down the street to see if the
cable
was turning. nothing. So now I have a problem in the cable gear in the
trans.
Unfortunately replacing this is not addressed in my shop manuel or the
Haines book i have.
Anybody been there , done that.

I haven't done that but the driven gear (the one that drives the cable) is
easily removed fromthe transmission. There is a bolt that holds the
bracket that holds the bushing that holds the gear that's conneced to the
hip bone er...
Pull the bolt, bracket and bushing and the gear pulls right out. Since
this gear is plastic and the drive gear on the main shaft is steel, there
is a 100% chance that the one that is bad is the plastic one.
Cheers

P.S. I love the shock kit.
