I look to the list for their combined wisdom...
I just recived my rebuilt engine. I bought it from a person who did not
finish there restoration project. It was a great deal compared to rebuilding
mine. Unfortunatly for me the original person is not available to give me
more info on this engine.
It is definely rebuilt .020 over. I have the oil pan off to measure and I can
see engine reassembly oil and greese. It's also has new plugs in the lower
block were it should and a new paint job. The DPO says it's from a 74. But....
The head looks like it wasn't touched, and on top of that, it's got an HE at
the end of the number. That should not be on a 74. If the engine is .020
over, won't it need the higher compression head anyway to compensate for the
bore enlargement? And maybe thats whats going on, the DPO put a HE head on a
74 block to compensate for the .020 over?
I'm not sure what to do here, should I just install the engine and fire it up
to see whats what? If I do that, I can remove the head while the engine is
still in the car making my life a little easier. After all, the short block
has been rebuilt, and any problems from here on should come from the head.
Right?
I can then rebuild this head if I run into problems, and it's still cheaper
than my original quotes for a rebuilt long block.
What so you list?
