What's the value of that stuff on the timing cover anyway? Is is for stone
protection or sound deadening? If it's sound then I would imagine a nicer
application/presentation is certainly possible. If it's just for stones,
then I can continue to live without it.

Speaking of 'dum-dum', any ideas on what to put on the timing chain cover of
a Triumph? I scraped the oil soaked cookie off years ago. My latest thoughts
were to imitate it with bondo.

... In earlier times, factories often used different stuff on the paint side
(like dum-dum putty) because there was no problem with it attacking fresh
paint...
