> Engine: GT6 Mark III
Carbs: Two carefully rebuilt Z-S 150 CDSE (with temp compensating units)
Conditions: no canister, carb breather pipes (to crankcase) plugged, no
PCV
Symptom: Chokes must remain on for engine to continue running
I tried the "butane around the gaskets and seals" diagnosis but found no
vacuum leaks.

Is there something which is obvious to others but not to me? Please reply
off line and I'll consider all help. Many thanks!

Are the ports on the side of the carbs that get connected to the cannister
plugged? If not they will suck mucho air and lean things out which sounds
like your symptoms.

Also, where are the metering needles adjusted? All the way out will likely
be too lean as well.

Dave
