I have been connecting battery chargers to batteries for years without disconnecting the car from the battery with no ill effects on cars with alternators or with dynamos. If you have tuned your radio to the stations you like and the display you want it's very annoying to have to get the instruction book out and start again after your battery is charged! As Dave Massey suggests I have usually, but not always, plugged the charger to the mains last. David Brister. 1967 TR4A.
