Has your maximum speed dropped? Ever since I was a kid, and first
learnt about jets and rockets, I have always had a sneaking suspicion
that a car whose exhaust points straight back will go just that little
bit faster than one where the tail pipe points at the ground (or off to
one side)... <g>
