I use plain copper core... but it can cause radio interference.  I just 
get a universal 8-cylinder set (actually cost less than the 4 & 6 
sets!?) and make a couple of TR sets.  Had some extra brass bits around 
so I think I got 4 TR sets out of that one kit.

I prefer the straight boots as I think they are easier to get ahold of 
-- don't know if the right angle boot is more typical of the period.
