Armed with a metal bar with a 90 degree bend in it, it is allegedly possible to spring the catch from under the dash by rotating the horizontal part of the bar (which is sticking through the bulkhead) and pushing the catch to one side with the vertical part of the bar (which is under the bonnet) I always find it helps to put pressure down on the bonnet (hood) to release the catch so a helper will be useful. And a torch (flashlight) You're close to the battery terminals when doing this so it might be wise to cover the bar with tape - just in case - if the live terminal is the side you're working on...
