Ive used surgilube on the tires as a mask. Its like vaseline but washes
with water and is very cheap from drug stores. Comes in a tube and is
easy to spread accurately. Just a thought, John Mitchell
I've got these old American Racing Silverstone Mag Wheels on my car.
They really need total refurbishing . .but in the mean time I'm not against
experimenting.
So anyway . .I've got the center spokes black and the rim is polished.
Polished Magnesium doesn't stay looking very good for too long.
So I saw a can of clear coat wheel paint in the store and decided to
experiment.
I'll polish up the rims and then clear coat them and see how it works.
Making two circular masks out of tape or cut out of paper one to mask the
tire, the other to mask the spokes doesn't sound like fun.
So I thought I could jack up a wheel . . spin it and spray some masking goo
on it.
The I could spin it and wipe off the polished rim section that I want to
clear coat.
Then spray the clear . .. then clean off the masking goo.
Okay .. now I've floated my idea out there ..feel free to start taking shots
at it from all directions.

Doesn't this just mean that you have to tape inside the zones to be painted
so that you can spray on the mask and then tear off the tape for spraying on
the paint, then somehow remove the mask? Doesn't seem like much of a savings
in time or money. Sounds kind of messy and wouldn't cover the question of
overspray sticking to parts in the voids near to objects being painted
unless you sprayed an awful lot of the mask around. Anyway, just asking for
details.

Any automotive paint store sells this as "masking compound", in your
location "Matto's Auto Paint & Supply", also most "Sherwin-Willimas" paint
stores will carry it "FT"
