Darrell - I had a similar issue when I replace the old pinion seal in my 4A.
It leaked (just a bit)! An alert lister pointed out that fluid can make its
way past the splines on the pinion thru the flange despite its snug fit. I
followed his recommendation &, before securing the nut, buttered up the back
side of the large washer with Hylomar & that seemed to do the trick.
(Cleaned up any residual oil beforehand.)
