Never tried that George but it might work if you had a long enough hose. The
question I would have is how do you know when you have filled it with enough
fluid?
I use an Industrial size syringe that I bought from Sears in the 70's just for
this purpose. I suck the oil out of the bottle and then inject it into the
trans from underneath the car. Works great. I suppose you could find one of
these tools at a good auto parts store like a NAPA store. Can't say that I've
seen one for a long time however.

Subject: TR4 Gearbox Oil Change
The TR4 (and late TR3As) do not have the filler plug/dipstick that can
be accessed from inside the car and the manual says to pump the gearbox
oil in thru the filler plug on the side of the gearbox.
On other (non-LBC) cars I have been able to run a tube down thru the
engine compartment an into a filler hole, sticking a funnel in the top
end & hanging it up like an oil I-V. Slow, of course, but simple and
effective.
Has anyone tried filling a TR4 gearbox this way? TIA.
