The 'convex' glass for TR guages does use a different chrome bezel assembly
quite different inside than the 'flat' glass type.
It does looks more vintage - your car dash will look 42 years old rather than
just 40!
It was probably cheaper to go flat and maybe it fit the big flat TR4 dashes
better design-wise?
Not sure if reflective light was a problem with convex Vs flat glass - I know
they got rid of the aluminum 'small-gauge' face plate (made it black) because
it was absolutely blinding in a convertible (the sun hitting you in the eyes
off that thing could damage your retina's - let alone making driving unsafe)
