Hi fellow listers,
All this talk of SU and Strombergs and intake manifolds for the 4 cylinder TRs
got me thinking again.
I went down to the cold basement and put a pair of downdraft webers on a later
TR4 / 4A intake manifold.
Wow are they heavy and they would end up hanging WAY off the side of the
engine.
I wouldn't be surprised if the front fender well didn't need a little
"clearancing" to fit this setup on the car.
Has anyone ever had twin downdraft webers on a TR4? (or TR3 for that matter?)
I imagine the engine to fender clearance would be even worse on a TR3 . . but
then the earlier intake manifold would probably give an extra inch or so of
clearance too.
When I heft that assembly up in my hand, I can't help but think that some other
sort of support for it would be a smart idea. Perhaps a support strut or strap
of some sort going from the outer most part of the carbs to a head stud?
Looking for any BTDT experiences.
Thanks
Scott Tilton
