I have followed the various threads on the TR6 magic clutch (both Sachs
and LuK versions) over the past few years. I am interested in something
better that the AP / Borg&Beck pressure plate for my "71 GT6" (Spit
body, TR6 engine, GT6 trans, Mazda Rx7/626/Miata diff). I'm not a purist
and my car is driven almost daily in season in stop and go commuter
traffic.
THe GT6 and TR6 do not share the same P/N for the clutch pressure plate
(cover) - even though both engines have the same bolt pattern to attach
the pressure plate (pp) to the flywheel. Several questions to help me
in my quest to get a better clutch:
1. Have any of you driven TR6s with Sachs AND LuK pressure plates? If
so, please describe your preference of one over the other and why?
2. Any of you with either a Sachs or a LuK pp in your TR6 with more
than 20K miles of use? If so, how many miles?
3. It is my understanding that for the TR6, the Sachs pp P/N is: SC 436
or 3082 100 041 or TRF P/N HP123 and that the LuK pp P/N is 215 TBFP;
correct?
4. Does anyone have cross reference data, with regard to pp for GT6,
Saab, Volvo? I am trying to cross reference the Saab and Volvo P/Ns
(noted below) for pp to Sachs and LuK P/Ns for pp. I have a HQ (brand)
cross reference (credit for that I believe goes to Kai?) that list the
HQ P/N Q10027 which "satisfies" the replacement needs of 9 OEMs for
about 35 specific vehicle models. These vehicles range from Triumph:
GT6, TR7 4 spd, TR4A, TR5, Dolomite, Vitesse; Saab 99 & 900 GL,GLS 4
spd (Saab P/N 8704116); Volvo 120/140/240 series (Volvo P/N 381249);
and a host of vehicles not imported into North America such as
Opel/Vauxhall, Ford (UK), Bedford, Austin, Morris, Rover. Is it any
wonder that we end up with a crappy clutch?
5. Anything I forgot to ask? Any related comments you would like to
share?
