Just to be clear, while Sherman is exactly right about the differential
itself, the axle housings are also longer on a TR4. Only the
carrier/gears/bearings/etc actually interchange.
I once spent a hot, dusty weekend swapping the broken rear axle in my TR3A
for a unit from a TR4. Didn't learn my mistake until I slid the TR3
halfshafts back in ... and decided to just drive the car with the TR4 axle
under it ! (Fortunately I had gotten the TR4 halfshafts with the axle.)
With skinny tires, it almost fit ... did a little handwork on the rear
fenders and lived with some light rubbing.
