Kent, A couple of good questions.
1. Temperature Sensor. It would be interesting to monitor the temperature at
that location and see how it compares with the stock temperature sender
location since it's down low and in the back of the engine between number 3
and 4 cylinders. My guess is however that it's not a good location to system
monitor since it's pretty far from the major heat sources of combustion,
namely the head, not to mention the water has not yet reached it's hottest
temperatures. You would have to choose a sensor with a low trigger
temperature to assure the cooling at the higher temperature experienced in
the head. Why not just monitor at the hottest location and be sure of your
readings. I have an electrically controlled electric fan on a TR4A and have
the sensor mounted into the top radiator tank just adjacent to the top hose
and where it monitors the hottest water, namely that just exiting the head.
I purchased one of the kits shown in Summit Racing's catalog but later
changed the sensor to one which turns on at a lower temperature. I'd need to
check for certain but I think mine turns on somewhere around 185 and off at
175. Works great with a 160 thermostat (an old sleeved one I found). If you
care to know more write me off list and I'll provide the details.

2.TR4A Exhaust Manifold. Years ago when I hung around with some SCCA racers
the story was that it was a pretty good substitute for a more expensive
header system but that the disadvantage was the weight of the header. To
install on your RHD TR 3 may be a problem with clearances although I can't
be certain of this concern. You would of course need the twin down pipes and
some method for joining the two pipes at some point. I don't know if the
frame of a TR3 and a 4A are enough alike to allow you to use the 4A system
to this point. Others may have tried with success and can say for sure.I
would also venture to say that you would not notice any increase in
horsepower even if there were a few extra generated.
