o/d problems on TR6

Just purchased 74 TR6, and o/d not working.
I have checked oil level and can hear solenoid engage
when stationary with ignition on. What to check next?
Car has been stood 2 years and is also very sluggish
despite ignition renew and carb + tank cleanout. Not
missing but seems like only  two thirds power
available????
