While we're talking about speedometers

I purchased a speedo off of ebay to replace the one that just went south on
me. My 76 TR6 has air conditioning. The old speedo has a long reset cable for
the trip odometer. The new one is short. Is there a way I can take the long
one of of the old speedo and put it on the new one?
