>My son and I just installed a new wiring harness in the TR6 (1976). The
job
seemed to go pretty smoothly. Dan's book was invaluable. I would recommend
it
to anyone about to do electrical work on the TR6.
When all was said and done - Started the car and everything seems to be
fine
except for the horn. If we put power to the relay, horn blows! Press the
horn button - nothing!
Wires coming out of the steering column are:
Blue/White Blue/Red
Purple/Black
Brown/Red
BROWN - this wire is not connected to anything. Possibly this is the
culprit
- but - what does it attach to?

Since I do not have Dan's book at hand I can only speak generically but as
I recall the 76 was an odd duck. All the other TR6's had a relay for the
horn and it is wired something like this:
A hot wire (brown?) is connected to one side of the relay contacts and one
end of the relay coil. The other side of the relay coil goes to the horn
push which grounds this side of the coil and energizes it. The energized
relay will close its contacts and provide power to the horn.
I believe the 76 has this sam arrangement.
Without the book I can't comment on the colors (but you have the book and
can look them up) but you can test various parts of the circuit by finding
the wire that goes to the horn push and connecting it to ground with a
jumper. If the horn blows then the problem is in the horn push or the
wires going to it. If the horn does not blow but the relay clicks then the
problem is in the wires to the horns. If the relay doesn't click it could
be the relay or the power feed to it.
Do this test and narrow down the field of possible causes and you will
quickly resolve this problem. Easy.
Good luck
