Good Evening Gentlemen!
I wanted to let you fellows know that I managed to get the horns
working. I ended up polishing the exposed aluminum surfaces of the flexible
coupling (due to an overwhelming amount of corrosion) and the grounding strap
(also very dirty) as well as the mating surfaces for both shafts. I also
discovered that the woven wire in the horn brush assembly was sheared and
repaired and reassembled the brush. After completing those two jobs, I had an
intermittent horn operation. I took some rubbing alcohol, soaked some Q-tips
are inserted it into the hole where the horn brush goes. I applied a little
pressure and turned the wheel lock to lock several times. Several Q-tips
later, I finally had a Q-tip come out clean. I cannot tell you how FILTHY the
contact plate was. So, in the long run, I think that there were a number of
reasons why the horns didn't work. One last question, are they supposed to
sound so anemic? I wanted to thank each and every one of you fellows who came
to my aid. On to the next problem! Thanks to all again! Cheers!
