I just re-installed my gas gauge sending unit that I bought from Moss
years ago. The gauge works fine with the sending unit out of the tank (with
an external grounding wire), but in the tank it always reads empty. Should I
take the external grounding wire off (it is connected with an eye fitting on
one of the mounting bolts)? I have checked the length of the "arm" to make
sure that it wasn't binding internally and the float doesn't leak.
I've tried it with a grounding wire, thinking that I had a bad ground
to the sending unit, and tried it without.
The gauge was rebuilt at West Valley Instrument and appears to work
correctly.
Any ideas?
