Greetings to the Triumph List,
I have a question about the 10" brake shoes on a 1959 TR3. I am replacing
the rear brakes on my car because the lining on the shoes was contaminated
from leaking wheel cylinders. As far as I know, new 10" brake shoes are now
unobtainable and Moss Motors and The Roadster Factory only supply them as
reconditioned units. The price for these seem pretty high ($120.00 to
$200.00). I have located a local shop that will bond new lining on my shoes
for $40.00.
What is the wisdom of the list on this matter? Has anyone had their brake
shoes relined? If I choose to have them relined at the local shop, what
questions should I ask? (How do I specify what type of material to use or
how thick it should be, for example.) While I'm basically cheap and hate to
spend $200.00 when $40.00 will do, I'm not going to let $200.00 keep my TR
of the road if the reconditioned shoes from Moss or TRF are really better
than having my shoes relined locally.
I look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts on this subject and will share
my experience about this decision with the list.
Regards,
Dave Easton
