Hello everyone. I think I have strange one. For the second time, the number
twelve push rod has popped off the rocker. The background on the engine: I
had it rebuilt which included new pistons, a complete new rocker shaft and
parts, new valves, valve seats and guides, etc. The crank was in fine shape
and only had to be polished. The block was degreased, steamed, and
repainted. Everything went back together fine and it started right up.
Subsequently, while driving on the interstated at 65 mph, the last rocker,
exhaust for # 6, popped off the rocker. About the only thing I didn't
replace on the initial rebuild were the push rods so when this happened I
replace them. Button everything up and of course check the valve clearance
and retuned the engine. Everything looked fine. I've only driven the car
about 100 miles since the first time this happened. I was only going 55 at
most and taking it easy. Everything sounded and ooked great. Then I tried
going a little faster, ie about 65 to 70 and the push rod popped off again.
Has anybody seen this happen??? Everything lines up visually. Also, that
particular push rod and rocker is the one that is between the pedestal that
is screwed to the rocker shaft.
Does anybody have any suggestions???
Thanks in advance.
