A few days ago, I tried to take the pedal assembly apart on my TR4 for
painting. I looked at the manual and the parts. I tried to take the pieces
apart on my bench but it seem that I was going to do more damage than good.
After almost forty years on the car, they seemed to have fused together so
tightly, I thought they would never come apart again. After asking the list
for help, I got a few replies on how others took their assembles apart. With
a little encouragement, I tried again.
I soaked the unit with PB Blaster and let it sit for about 24 hours. Last
night I tried again. I found that a flat Stanley pry bar was just the right
size to slide between the lower bracket and the pedal pivots. With a little
persuasion of a hammer on the bar, I was able to pop the lower cover off.
Then it was just a matter of driving the pivot pin out of the bushes and
taking everything apart. Now it is off to the powder coater.
My thanks goes out to everyone who helped out with my project. This list is
has to be one of the best tools we have for working on our cars.
