Hi Sumner:

No offence taken at all. Just having fun tweaking your tail. I may have
British parents, but I am a proud Canadian. Twitting our big American
cousins is our national pastime. If we didn't razz you guys up from time to
time you'd forget we were up here.

Now start commenting on some percieved lack of Canadian high-technology and
I might well start to get testy. (grin)

As for oil, I have a gravel floor in my detached garage, right now the first
projet in the spring is to put in concrete. I have budgeted a couple of
thousand for the concrete and figure I am going to have to spend the whole
summer damming the flow from the TR6 in order to preserve the new floor.
Unfortunately the last major leaks seem to be the rear crank seal (oh no!!!)
and the big brass plug on the O/D. Worst place in the whole car. That
leather seal in the differential is not great either, however that just
leaks until the oil level goes down a bit.

Can anybody tell me if they have succeeded in backing the transmission out
enough to replace the rear crank seal without disassembling the interior of
the car too much? I finally got that all in and looking nice. Was hoping to
avoid ripping it all out again.

Cheers,

Mark

To Mark Hooper and any other British readers that I may have offended:

If my little LBC joke in the March Reader's Digest offended you, I most
certainly do apologize; it was not my intent to denigrate anyone.

Having said that..... If you read it again, you will find that I did not
say "Why are there no British computers". I was simply quoting some unknown
person on this list who said it. I may be guilty of plagiarism, but nothing
else. In fact, I have a lot of respect for the technical capability of
British engineers. I worked with a number of them in U.S. companies
throughout my engineering career. (It was called the "brain drain" --
remember?) My very first computer was a British-made Sinclair kit. It was
great! I added the optional outboard memory, all of 16k as I recall. I
taught myself some BASIC and had a fine time with it, and even wired in a
real keyboard eventually to replace the little membrane keyboard. I also
recall reading that the Brits did a lot of radar development in WWII.

I'll admit that the British can build good computers if you admit that old
British cars often leak oil. If you have any doubt, I'll be happy to send
you a photo of my garage floor.

Sumner Weisman

P.S. Mark, I lost your e-mail address so am sending this to the list only.
