COUNT EM!! EIGHT original 8 Spoke American Racing Mags have now been bead
blasted and Powder Coated with a marine grade Crystal Clear finish. They
look UNNF---INGBELIEVABLE. Two are a bit scarred up and will only serve in
the case of failure of any of the others. Bead blast and PC ran $60.00 per.
The magnesium did present out gassing problems when heated to the 400
degrees required. A few tiny patches of bubbles in the PC surface were
evident upon close examination. This was taken care of by lightly steel
wooling the areas just enough to smooth the bubbles edges and then applying
a thin coat of gloss polyurethane only to the bubbled areas. Filled in the
open pores and worked like a charm! Repairs are literally invisible. Those
areas may require subsequent retouching. We'll see. There was some pitting
on the wheels but with the bead blast, the powder coat filled in the vast
majority of the pits which have the same silvery tint as the rest of the
metal surface. I could not be more pleased with the results and the mags
do look so good on the Signal Red 6 which has been polished and waxed to
glowing. And with the two eared knockoffs on, accented with Genuine Joe
Curry Triumph Laurel Wreath decals....killer! The new main harness is in and
ALL electric is now functional with the previous intermittent short in the
green circuit having disappeared completely. BUT It's RAINING!!
I can't wait to get out on the wine country back roads and have my new
GIRLFRIEND (Yes the widower Deano has a new roommate) take some digital
photos. Is there some place I can post them so all of my autox pals can see
what I've been talking about these last couple of years?
