That sounds very much like the effect of a loose connection at the back
of the speedo. See if you can get your hand in there and push the
connector back. This is a perennial problem with Spitfire speedos, and
I see no reason why TR4s should be any different...
(Sits back and awaits a deluge of e-mails explaining why TR4 speedos and
Spitfire speedos don't share the same problems <g>).
