>Pete,

First, because I don't HAVE a shop vac. Second, because if I did,
I'd need to use that hose on the shop vac!
But seriously, I'd like to use some sort of 'proper' air duct hose.
There's nothing particularly special about the OEM hose, anyway. And
besides, my experience with parts like this that are available in
bulk, is that if you order from the 'big three' it ends up being
generic, bulk, non-OEM stuff anyway, so what the Hell's the point?
For example, I just ordered the OEM-style positive battery cable from
Moss thinking that I was ordering the cable that has the built-in
4-way junction box (after all, that's what the catalog shows for
'73-'76 TR6) and instead I got a generic battery cable that's no
different from what NAPA sells just down the street.
TRF's catalog shows molded, properly shaped seals in their catalog
for the sealing strips that are used with the transmission tunnel
cover. I ordered those pieces years back and I got plain, flat,
straight strips of rubber that aren't molded to fit the bends of the
gearbox tunnel cover at all.
I find that the OEM duct hose is fairly difficult to work with. For
instance, on the driver's side I had to remove the hose which goes
from the heater box to the eyeball in order to complete my little
wiring project. But the stuff is so stiff and the ribbing wire is so
thick that I can't feed it back through that looped support strap
that attaches to the left-side forward steering column bolts. I've
got the bolt loosened up, too, but that loop still won't open up
enough to let the hose slip through and twisting the hose doesn't
help, either. And the stiff, heavy ribbing wire won't allow me to
collapse the hose to get it through.
Is this enough whining for the day? Basically, I just want some hose
that's a little more flexible and easier to work with, that'll hold
up for the long term and that will transport air from the heater box
to the vents. Might be nice if it was black, too, but even that's
not that important.
Is the stuff Moss sells OEM style hose? Or is it bulk generic stuff
and if the latter, is it a little easier to deal with than the OEM
hose?
