Good point, if you are using a 'dumb' charger.  Doesn't take much
ventilation to disperse the gases, which are just hydrogen and oxygen,
explosive but not toxic.  However, there is frequently a bit of sulfuric
acid carried along as an aerosol, which can do some damage to things in
the vicinity.  There is also a (quite small) risk of fire.  Takes a
really weird set of circumstances, but it's happened to me.
