Luckily I don't live there anymore, but I doubt anything is as hot in
the States as August in New Orleans. Talk about jungle hot.

Been there, done that. Driving to VTR 2000 (Portland, OR) we drove from
Ogden, UT to Burns, OR across Idaho in 100+ heat. The weather was nice
on the west coast but otherwise it was a brutal trip.
And I'll bet the California group can one-up me.
