The ignition coil will work both ways. Improper polarity ( as in battery and
points wires removed and swapped) will cause a weak spark.
Does the car have a capacitive or electronic ignition? (Some systems still
use points to trigger the box.) Perhaps it was damaged in the battery
reversal.
