Hi,
I replaced this part last winter, and ran into the same
discrepency. The TRF replacement part is original looking, except
there are no counterbored holes for the 2 hex socket head drilled
screws. I went to a good hardware store, and purchased 4 - grade 5,
2" long 5/16-24 hex cap screws, flat washers and split lock washers.
It's not concours, but my car isn't anyway. No safety wire, but hey,
I'm pokin around in there at least once a week and I'll notice if
something is loosening up. So far, so good.
This summer, at our club's "Day of Triumph" show, I found what
looked like a new coupling with the 2 c'bored holes. Dang. If you
are into total originality, I can give you the vendor's name and number.
Maybe he still has the part for sale.
Have you installed it yet? There's a trick: Wrap a large radiator
hose clamp around the middle and squeeze the coupling until it's hole
pattern matches that of the upper and lower column. Works great!
Good Luck, Rick 1973 TR6 CF2570U

The new coupling from TRF is not exactly the same as the
original.
The original ==>Two of the bolts have inset allen heads;
the other 2 are
regular hex head bolds.
The new coupling uses 4 regular hex head bolts. Now I have
to order new
bolts.
Does anyone know if these bolts can be had from a hardware
store or do I
have
to order special? They have holes drilled for "safety"
wire.
Any thoughts?
