Let's put the romanticism to sleep. BMW are highly unlikely to resurrect the
Triumph name. As well as the idea that the Triumph name might reappear on
BMW made cars there was also speculation that BMW would use the name to
manufacture parts for us poor lost souls. Not a chance (as the recent sale
underlines). No business case there whatsoever.
The only plausible (and very BMWesque) reason for holding on to the name
(and I think they kept Austin Healey as well) is to prevent a resurgent
MG-Rover building cars for sale in the US where Triumph retains credible
brand equity and thereby competing against their own sports cars. Or to
prevent MG/R fom reselling the brand to someone like Ford's PAG. Jaguar,
Land Rover, Aston Martin... and Triumph. Nice thought....
