Kurtis,
don't think your TR4 should have any emission stuff - at all. Open breather
cap (wire gauze type), no other holes in the valve cover. Regular air filters
(wire gauze again- cleaned and oiled every 6000 miles), and a crankcase
breather exit pipe emitting fumes toward the ground (attached at side of
engine block reward of fuel pump.
What you've done so far has brought your car to how it was originally set up
to function - not sure why you would have extra holes in manifold and valve
cover - one option when new was to have 'vacuum assisted brakes' and they
would tap a hole in the intake manifold to get suction to operate the vaccum
unit. My valve cover like many others has a brass bolt/plug in the middle top
between the two fastening bolts - not sure if they used these covers for
other cars that made use of the hole there..on TR3s and TR4s it was plugged
with a nice brass bolt.
