I thought I'd pass along a nice gesture from a recent car show I attended
here in southeast PA on Sunday - Buckingham Concours D'Elegance. This annual
show is always very well organized and attended. It has raised a lot of
money to fund land preservation activities in neighboring areas against
indiscriminate builders and land developers. Last Sunday they announced that
half of their proceeds were being donated to the American Red Cross.
The sponsors thought long and hard whether to even run the show. I think
they made the right decision. It was good to see so many people get away
from the tragedy even for as short as a day and decompress with one another.
The visitors to the show even seemed more interested in talking to us about
our cars, the events of last week or anything for that matter - it seemed
like everyone just wanted to get out and take a healing break - in an odd
sort of way I guess, I think our little cars helped to give people another
opening to get some sense of realtime compassion.
