Glycerine, glycerin, glycerol - all more or less the same thing.
You could use industrial lanolin or hand cream lightly-smeared on both
contact surfaces. If anyone knows a farmer, the barrier cream used for
cattle udders would do just as well as its non-toxic. The lanolin
would do fine too, it's the substance that was sprayed all over your
car's paint at the factory to protect the paint from salt
contamination during shipment. I'd avoid using undiluted liquid soap -
especially the kitchen variety.
