In general when a rear wheel drive transmission exhibits these symptoms, the
rear main shaft bearing has come apart or the snap ring/retainer plate has
come off. The shifter movement is from the mainshaft/syncros/sliders moving
back and forth.
In any event don't drive the car or tow with the rear wheels on the ground,
towing could result in more broken parts.
