Hi,
I ran a compression test on my '66 TR4A, and got the following
(all tested cold, throttle held open):
cyl dry wet
1 190 190
2 190 190
3 170 170
4 180 190
I haven't adjusted the valves in a while, hopefully
that explains #3. The slight loss in #4 looks to be
within tolerances. But are the absolute pressures
too high? I've always had problems with pinging
and run on. I can see how the compression ratio
might be too high, as when the engine was rebuilt
15 or so years ago, the liners were badly worn (you
could wiggle the piston visibly from side to side), and
the head had to be milled a bit because it was warped.
The liners were not replaced, but where bored out
for oversized pistons (but I don't know how much).
