As a public service, check these documents (or browse the EPA web site:
www.epa.gov). As a citizen of the USofA (I assume with a Michigan address
that you are a citizen, apologies of you are not) you should look into
these things. After all _you_ pay for them. Me too!
Anyway, the lead phase out was actually proposed officially in 1973. Look

Bottom line - lead is bad for all of us.
And right now the only folks using it are airplanes and race cars. These
will probably phase out over time too.
Now, there is also unleaded racing fuel - if you want to use that, you may
run into some road tax issues - well, that and the amazingly high cost.
