When we did a frame of on my TR3 I cleaned all of the brass fittings (and
all of the fuel and brake lines) with either steel wool or my wire wheel and
finished them with several "toothbrush" shaped stainless steel brushes.
Cleaned them with lacquer thinner then either sprayed or dipped them in
urethane gloss varnish. It's now two years later and all of the fittings
still look brand new. One thing I tried to avoid was the Marine "belt
buckle" shine. I just wanted everything to look "new" and as stock as
possible.
